Def Leppard's Vivian Campbell has cancer. The guitarist is coming forward with his diagnosis in a Facebook post, saying he recently learned he has Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He explains that he had a persistent cough he simply couldn't shake, and after a number of attempted remedies and tests doctors discovered the disease.
Campbell says when it comes to cancer, "Hodgie's is the one to have," because it has a cure rate of over 80%. The rocker adds that he's now two months into a six-month chemotherapy regimen, which has left him with a "new aerodynamic hairstyle."
Vivian admits part of his decision to go public with his condition stems from his new image, explaining that he's still planning to tour with Def Leppard this summer, and he doesn't want anyone to be shocked by his appearance that they ask for a refund. He adds that his friends, family, and bandmates have all been extremely supportive through this.
Def Leppard will be hitting the road later this month. The group will launch their trek in Europe, with an appearance at Hellfest in Clisson, France on June 21st. The group will begin their North American shows in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on July 10th.
