Republicans Want Legislative Control Over Exchange

MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ Republican state lawmakers are circulating a bill that would give the Legislature control over whether Wisconsin operates its own health insurance exchange.

Gov. Scott Walker made the decision not to create a state exchange and instead have the federal government operate the online marketplace, which has been beset with problems since it went live earlier this month.

Republican sponsors of the bill circulated this week for backers say Walker was right to not have the state run the exchange. Their proposal would require that the Legislature must approve the creation of any state-run exchange.

Rep. David Craig, of R-Big Bend, and Sen. Leah Vukmir, of Brookfield, are asking those interested in being co-sponsors to respond by Nov. 1.
