There's a big hole in redevelopment plans on East Washington Avenue, notably the 800 block.
Metcalfe's was part of a mixed use plan by Gebhardt Development, at the old Don Miller site. The project called for a 50,000 square-foot grocery store, along with a rooftop garden. But apparently the two sides haven't been able to see eye to eye.
Gebhardt has released a statement saying Metcalfe's is no longer part of the plan, as they were unable to reach an agreement and that they'll pursue other options .
In addition to the store, Gebhardt also planned up to 240 residential units and a 350-space parking garage in phase one. Phase two includes 22 condos, commercial space and more parking.
In July, Gebhardt and the city signed a purchase agreement for the 4.5-acre site on the north side of the 800 block, for $3.15 million.
