High speed beltline pursuit ends in crash

October 21, 2013 - At approximately 10:50 am, a Dane County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a driver who was traveling at 82 mph in a 55 mph zone on the eastbound beltline (STH 12/18), near the Rimrock Road exit. As the deputy exited his squad car and began to approach the vehicle, the driver sped away.

When the driver, Angelo Harris, age 20 of Fitchburg, exited the Beltline at Monona Drive, another Sheriff’s deputy began to pursue the vehicle northbound on Monona Drive. Harris soon lost control and crashed at Acacia Lane in Monona. He attempted to flee on foot, but was tased by the deputy and taken into custody. Harris was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. A second vehicle was involved in the crash, however, the occupant of that car was not injured.

Deputies recovered a substantial amount of cash and marijuana packaged for individual sale from inside the rental car Harris was driving. His pending charges include OWI-2nd Offense, Possession with Intent to Deliver, Eluding, and Resisting. He also has an outstanding warrant from Milwaukee County. The case remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
