Flood concerns

The Wisconsin River in Portage is expected to reach Action Stage at 13.5 feet on Sunday, June 23rd and to reach 16.9 feet by Wednesday, June 26th.

Water flows of 30,000+ cfs are forecast for the Portage area by Wednesday, June 26th, on the Wisconsin River.

Updates will be announced if needed. Flooded roads will be expected in the lower areas of Blackhawk Park south of Portage.

Due to the forecasted rain over the next few days, these river levels could change and flooding may become a problem in other areas prone to flooding.

People are advised to monitor the National Weather Service flood forecast site for any updates to the water levels on the Wisconsin River. Turn around don’t drown! Do not attempt to drive through water on a road, as little as 6 inches of moving water can sweep a car off the road.

The Columbia County Emergency Management Office will be monitoring the river levels and will make additional announcements as needed.

Anyone with questions is advised to contact the Columbia County Emergency Management Office at 608-742-4166 Ext 1308.
