Evansville woman killed in crash

On Thursday, 01/30/14 at 1449 hours, Deputies from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two vehicle crash with multiple injuries on N. USH 14 approximately .2 of a mile north of W. STH 59 in Union Township. Fire and EMS personnel from the City of Evansville and Village of Brooklyn also assisted at the scene, along with a First Response Medical Doctor (MD1) from Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville, WI.

The investigation shows a 2001 Ford Escort, driven by Elizabeth B. Proctor, age 19, of Evansville, WI, was traveling northbound on N. USH 14 when she lost control of the vehicle on the slippery road covered with blowing and drifting with snow. Proctor’s vehicle slid sideways across the centerline and into the path of a southbound, 2013 Chevy Impala, driven by Raymond J. Reinart, age 72, of Granton, WI. After the broadside impact, Proctor’s vehicle came to rest in the snow bank on the west side of the road and Reinart’s vehicle came to rest in traffic on N. USH 14.

Proctor had been wearing her seatbelt and was pronounced dead on scene by Chief Deputy/Acting Coroner Louis Smit. Reinart and a passenger in his vehicle, Marggo P. Young, age 66, also of Granton, were both wearing seatbelts and were transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville. Reinart refused medical treatment and Young was treated for minor injuries and released.

Poor road conditions were a contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation at this time.

Officials from the Evansville Police Department and Dane County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with diverting traffic around the scene, while the Rock County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team investigated the crash. N. USH 14 was closed from STH 59 to STH 92 for nearly four hours as a result.
