Driver busted in hit and run crash near Sun Prairie

 July 22, 2013 – Dane County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a Hit and Run crash on Sunday, July 21st in the town of Sun Prairie.

Deputies were called to the two-vehicle crash at CTH T and Bailey Road at about 5:45 pm.  The at-fault driver was traveling southbound on Bailey Road and struck a vehicle operated by Kari L. Yahnke, age 46 of Sun Prairie.  Kari was traveling eastbound on CTH T, and was not injured in the crash.

The at-fault driver fled the scene on foot, running into a nearby cornfield.  A short time later, deputies located the driver, Luis E. Martinez-Martinez, age 21, at his residence on Cottage Grove Road in the City of Madison.  Martinez was cited for OWI – 1st Offense, Operating After Suspension, Hit and Run, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Failure to Report an Accident, Open Intoxicants, and No Insurance. During the investigation, Martinez admitted to being the operator and receiving a ride from a resident in the area following the crash.
