WAUNAKEE, Wis. (AP) _ For the second time in two months, a pipe has burst at a biodigester near Waunakee, spilling about 20,000 gallons of manure into a retention basin.
The spill happened Monday afternoon at the Clear Horizons biodigester.
Dane County lakes and watersheds director Kevin Connors says workers stopped the breach within 15 minutes. He says the waste didn't reach waterways outside of the biodigester property.
The facility has been under scrutiny since November, when 300,000 gallons of manure spilled. Some manure flowed to a creek that feeds into Lake Mendota.
Jim Ditter is the chief executive of PPC Partners, which owns the facility. He says the company is strengthening its pipe system and evaluating electronic safety controls.
